Description

After St Jean en Royans, go towards Col de la Machine, famous for its road hewn from the cliff face, on the Combe Laval road which emerges into the middle of a magnificent cirque, - a 4 km deep gash dominating the Royannais landscape. You lose count of the number of tunnels through the rock, the abrupt drops and dizzy-making viewpoints. It took 50 years of tunnelling and construction to make this route - a perilous job
Stop off at the Col de la Machine viewpoint at 1,011 m in altitude, where you can enjoy magnificent views over Le Royans.
